In August 2025, we visited the Heritage Designs at the Amana Colonies in Amana, Iowa. The Heritage Designs has handmade quilts and sewing materials for sale. The Amana Colonies are a collection of 7 Colonies of German Heritage in Central Iowa, and they are not Amish. There are many quaint shops and buildings, and they are all clean and well-maintained. Apparently, the Amana draws the highest number of visitors of any tourist attraction in Iowa. We greatly enjoyed visiting the Amana Colonies, and the Heritage Design quilt shop.

Such a beautiful store with so much fabric to choose from. Also they have so many beautiful quilts on display!! The ladies there are so kind as well!!

Great quilt shop. They have a nice selection of batik fabric and 30s fabric. Very friendly people.

My son and I visited this store on January 4 on our way to Green Bay. WI. The two clerks were so nice. Beautiful store. The dark haired clerk gave us a lot of history of the colonies and the church. Fascinating discussion. I will be back.

I went to the shop last Friday. When I arrived there were a couple of customers being helped but were not very busy. Not one of the employees even made eye contact with me or even acknowledged that I was there. I even stood next to an employee and the customer and she still didn’t acknowledge me. I walked around for about 19 minutes and still no acknowledgment. I would have given a zero rating but gave a 2 because of the items in the store.
