2026 - Once Upon a Quilt on Griffin Road in Fort Lauderdale is truly unlike any sewing or quilting shop I’ve ever experienced. From the moment you walk in, the space feels inspiring — pristinely clean, beautifully organized, and filled with thoughtfully curated fabrics you simply won’t find in big box stores. Free parking makes it easy to pop in, whether you’re browsing or on a mission for something specific. Barb and Sally are two of the most welcoming, kind, and knowledgeable people I’ve met in this industry. I brought in my grandmother’s Bernina for service and had several detailed questions about presser feet for different projects. Barb generously took the time to sit with me one-on-one, asked about the kinds of sewing I love to do, and helped me thoughtfully narrow down exactly what I needed. She even shared techniques and creative uses I hadn’t considered. That level of personalized guidance and genuine care is rare these days. This isn’t just a store — it’s a place where sewists and quilters can feel supported, inspired, and part of a creative community. If you value quality fabrics, expert advice, and a welcoming atmosphere, Once Upon a Quilt is a true gem in Fort Lauderdale. 2025 - I just stumbled upon this quilt shop as I was going to a store in the same plaza, so I stopped in. The lit Bernina sign in the window caught my attention. I was absolutely blown away when I walked in! It was immaculate and clean. They have very unique, gorgeous and high quality fabrics lining the walls from top to bottom. Very well lit store to be able to see the colors well. Thoughtfully layed out in themes and colors. One half of the store is all Bernina machines, accessories and equipment. They also do machine service - which I will be back to have my Bernina serviced. The front desk lady was very kind, knowledgeable and informative with any questions I had. My new go to shop and worth the trip!

Beautiful fabrics and colorful patterns.. that being said....I went in to purchase Christmas fabric today . I spent about 25 minutes walking around and looking at all the fabric, even the Batiks, not seeing any Christmas themed. Not once was i acknowledged. No one asked if they could help me, what was I looking for, or even did I need any assistance. I will NEVER go back there nor will I tell any of my sewing/crafting friends to try there to shop. I will make the 50+ mile trip to LAURA'S Fabric on Northlake Blvd. There you are greeted almost as you step into the doorway.

I started visiting Once Upon a Quilt in 2018 after I had purchased a B880 Embroidery/Sewing/Quilting machine. It was complex and I needed to take classes to learn how to use it. I have never visited a more friendly shop. When I go for supplies or classes it is like a visit to friends. The staff is helpful and the products and fabrics are very high quality. My daughter was even captivated by the shop. The classes are wonderful and Lisa Stevens, the shop owner, finds the best instructors. I have thoroughly enjoyed every class I have taken here. Once Upon a Quilt is the best. I am moving out of Florida and I will truly miss it.

A friend told me about Once Upon A Quilt’s annual retreat, but living out of state meant flying to Florida, getting a hotel, renting a car… I’ve attended dozens of sewing events but was promised this was like no other. Fine. I’m in. Fast forward to my arrival at the shop for my 3-day adventure in Ft Lauderdale. Holy smokes, Lisa’s store is incredible. The fabric selection is like no other quilt shop I’ve visited. The variety of fabric - from Tula to Tilda to Amanda Murphy, Moda and Kaffe Fassett… I went nuts!! I’m from California, where prices are high. I also travel to Dallas often, and Texas fabric is more reasonable. Lisa’s prices for fabric, however, are even lower for the exact same yardage! And as a Bernina owner, I can buy my bobbins, attachments, embroidery hoops, and digital patterns from her. I even negotiated a price on my dream machine - the 790 pro. Two other things before I stop gushing over this place: her classes and her team. The classes were amazing. I learned to do things with my serger I didn’t know I could do. I can’t wait to get home and start fancying up my hand towels and (spoiler alert) making more denim aprons with rolled red hems for everyone this Christmas. Lisa brings in the experts from Ohio to Australia and Chicago to Switzerland. Taking an embroidery class directly from the Aussie designer and Swiss digitizer was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Lastly, her team. This loyal group of people would do anything for Lisa. And vice versa. To see how helpful they are, how hard they work and how much knowledge they are happy to share with anyone and everyone was heart warming. These folks are like a family and I’ve never felt so warmly welcomed as I have these past three days. Thank you Lisa and team. You have created something magical and I will be back ❤️

New toy...YAY...!!! Today I picked up my new Bernina B770 sewing machine along with a pre-owned embroidery module attachment at a fantastic price. A big shout out and THANK YOU goes to Once Upon A Quilt shop for their outstanding customer service and in making me "a new Bernina Family Member" feel welcomed. Sally, sales rep, Eli explained threading, and Lisa, owner were tremendously helpful with my purchase. I am excited in being a Bernina owner. Looking forward to my first project on my first Bernina.
