Top Stitch Mending

I loved the teacher, they were really kind and knowledgeable about sewing. They taught me a bunch of valuable lessons. I also loved the space, it was cozy and had all of the supplies necessary for a wonderful experience!

I took Visible Mending with Lisa at Top Stitch Mending in Church Hill and loved the pace and the progression of the class. We started simply with lots of stitch options and as the weeks went on, we could bring in items to repair and learn how to work on them specifically. I have repaired many pairs of jeans, socks, shirts and dresses since taking the class. I try to attend all of the Mend Friend Meetups - it's such a great low pressure way to be in community, mend something and get to connect with others on their mending journey.

I recently took a Dare to Repair class and brought a treasured sweater that was really starting to show some love and wear. The class size was perfect. Small enough for lots of hands-on support, but with enough variety that we also got to see and learn other techniques from what everyone else was working on. Lisa was thorough, thoughtful, and a great teacher. I left feeling confident to keep mending on my own and am already looking forward to taking another class.

I had two pair of pants mended at topstitch and I couldn’t be happier. Lisa was communicative throughout the process and did an amazing job with her work. The color match for each was spot on, and the quality of the work will allow me to wear my favorite pants for years to come.

Lisa and the Top Stitch crew are simply the best. The visible mends I've gotten have added to the beauty of my garments — invariably resulting in compliments when I wear them. I have been so pleased with the "regular" mends, too, including repairs to a generations-old afghan made and passed down by generations of women in my family. Lisa's also been able to repair garments that have been declined by the alterations department of my dry cleaner. So grateful RVA has a small biz that keeps otherwise good garments wearable and out of the landfill!
