The Modern Sewist & BERNINA Studio

I have been a customer many times at Modern Sewist, taken classes, had my machine repaired, etc. Today I was so insulted. I came to Modern Sewist with the intention of purchasing several feet for my Bernina. The display of feet were on the wall behind a table and chairs. There was not a cash register in this spece. I asked if I could go behind the table to look at the display to see which feet were available to compare to my inventory that I have recorded from home. This was not going to be possible as the salesperson wanted to stand behind the table and control what I could look at. I explained and asked to go behind the table so I could compare and make my decision. Not going to happen. I said forget it. As I was walking out, I said that I had no intention of stealing anything. I said this as this is how I felt I was being treated. Sad, as I was planning on purchasing several feet.

I’m making a shark and dolphin from Funky Friends Factory and needed help with the eyes. Karis helped me and she was very competent and fun. And patient. Also made some good suggestions. I love that store. Susie Martin.

Came across this store while visiting from Gainesville - what a find! I was looking for old style presser feet for my recently acquired vintage Bernina. Karis very kindly searched her supplies and gave me two old presser feet she had - for free. I did buy some fabric, too - they have a great range. Also, the fabulous, recently retired Bernina repair guy in Tampa-Temple Terrace I had used is referring his clients to this store. I will be back!

I participated in an online bag making class, and I have also made several purchases through their website. First, Karis and Mary are absolutely amazing. They have an unmatched passion for the craft, combined with incredible knowledge. If you have a chance to learn from them, you should! You're not just a student, you're a member of a community. Second, they carry quality materials at a great price. And shipping is fast! I ordered this morning and it was shipped this morning! I'm a repeat customer, and I'll be coming back again!

So many insanely beautiful fabrics to choose from! Well priced, friendly & knowledgeable staff. I was able to find the perfect high-quality fabric I was searching for; the owner even gave me back story to the fabric I picked out (one of the creators was a Ringling grad!) A much better experience than I’ve ever had at the big box stores. Will definitely be back to support these awesome ladies.

My favorite store in Sarasota! I love the machines, and they have great classes. Amazing bag making classes, garment, and of course quilt classes. Some beautiful linens for garments. Great waxed canvases and corks for bags and wallets. Wonderful, friendly staff, treated like family. Nothing sews like a Bernina
