Sew Katie Did

I’m so glad I found Sew Katie Did. I signed up for my first sewing class with zero sewing experience, and Katie made everything approachable and fun. She’s patient, fun to talk to, and a wonderful teacher. I’ve now taken several classes and even started sewing on my own at home thanks to what I learned. Excited to sign up for another workshop! Below are photos of my first projects. I love how they turned out!

I highly recommend Katie at Sew Katie Did in West Seattle for sewing and quilting instruction! I have learned so much from her as an adult who hardly sewed before and was new to quilting. Her offerings include studio days which is great because one can get a lot of instruction and help with learning and making progress on projects in each 4 hour time slot. She also offers classes in which she provides lots of inspiration, techniques and clear instructions for each class. Katie is happy to share her own quilts and projects as inspiration, shares her knowledge and expertise freely, and she is always fun to hang with, whether for studio days or classes.

I have taken several of Katie’s classes and signed up for private sessions. She is amazing. Her teaching style is calm, in-depth and caring. I love the space and the energy of the classes. If you want to learn how to make cool things - Katie is the teacher for you!

A fabulous experience. Katie is a wonderful artist and excellent instructor. Her processes work well and she communicated what I needed to know to in advance of the workshop. The studio is welcoming and well organized. I am delighted with the start of my first modern quilt project. I will definitely book open studio time to continue learning. Plus Katie has beautiful fabric too!

A few years back, I decided I wanted to learn to quilt, and thank goodness I contacted Katie. She has patiently helped me through the making of several beautiful quilts and I couldn't have done it without her! Her studio is my happy place. I call her my "quilting nanny". I am so grateful for her expertise and guidance. On top of that, she's a great person to spend time with!

I'm really grateful to have met Katie. She is an excellent quilting instructor and mentor. She has tremendous patience and is very passionate about teaching. I took the Beginning Modern Quilting 101 class earlier this year and she helped me finish my quilt from start to finish. She takes the stress out of worrying about bringing your own machine and you can use her Juki machines. There is plenty of space to work. I highly recommend learning from Katie whether you are a beginner at quilting or have people experience.

Sew Katie Did is such a wonderful find in the Arbor Heights community. The space is welcoming, well-organized, and full of creative energy. Katie’s kind and patient approach makes it easy for my daughters to feel comfortable and excited to learn. The classes have just the right balance of structure and freedom, students are given a clear goal, but also the independence to make creative choices along the way, with Katie always nearby to offer gentle support. Each time, my daughters leave with a project they are truly proud of and new skills that boost their confidence. My daughters truly look forward to every class and always asks when they can go back!

Katie is a true hidden gem in the West Seattle neighborhood. The studio is bright , organized and inspiring. Katie’s calm and friendly demeanor enables my daughter to relax and easily slip into creativity mode. The general structure of Katie’s classes allow for the students to have a set goal, with the kiddos navigating the project to completion (with Katie’s gentle guidance) and they end up with an incredible finished craft to take home. My daughter has gained so much confidence with her sewing, is proud of herself for gaining new skills and looks forward to taking a class with Katie whenever she can.

If you’re looking for a terrific sewing and quilting teacher, Katie is it! She’ll guide you from beginning to end, inspiring and encouraging along the way. Highly recommend!
